I grew up an urban kid in Houston, but learned to love wilderness and was for the most part reformed in the piney woods of East Texas and the Chihuahuan desert of Big Bend. I squeaked through graduation from Cornell University (and as much from Cornell Outdoor Education) in 1995. Then climbing drew me out to the mountains and canyons of the West for the next decade. I have had the good fortune to work for several wonderful outdoor education and recreation programs, including those at Colorado State University, the Sierra Club and the Colorado Outward Bound School.
In 2004 I earned a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, got married and moved back to the Lone Star State – this time to the Hill Country of Central Texas. I currently work for the University of Texas at San Antonio, as Assistant Director of Campus Recreation where for the last five years I and a group of hard-working colleagues and students have built and run the UTSA Outdoor Pursuits program. I first joined AORE in 2003, and am leading the host committee to bring the national conference to San Antonio in 2011.
