NPS Partners with AORE on Emerging Leaders Program
National Park Service and Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education Announce Emerging Leaders Program
Recipients of the program will receive a scholarship to attend the 2017 AORE Annual Conference
ANN ARBOR, MICH. – September 13, 2017 – The Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) and the National Park Service (NPS) have announced today the Emerging Leaders Program. To further the goal of advancing professionals and students in outdoor recreation and education, the Emerging Leaders Program will provide participants an inclusive environment to exchange information, network, and address critical issues in the outdoor field.
We are looking for individuals representing and/or serving underserved populations, who have shown a commitment to the field of outdoor recreation, with a focus on conservation or diversity, equity, and inclusion. These “emerging leaders” are individuals who can broaden the impact of their efforts through additional training and connections built within AORE and its partners. Applicants should be in their twenties, who currently hold a job in the field, or have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, or are currently pursuing a graduate degree in a relevant field, and should be positioned to increase access and/or advocacy for public lands.
In 2017, the focus will be recruiting local applicants in Roanoke and nearby areas. Recipients of the program will receive a registration to the 2017 AORE Annual Conference in Roanoke, VA from Oct. 31 – Nov. 3, 2017.
Individuals who participate in the Emerging Leaders Program will:

Gain valuable knowledge in how to navigate, access, and succeed in outdoor leadership roles such as field course leaders, program directors, committee chairs, conference presenters, executive directors, and board of directors.

Develop a strong professional relationship with their mentor for positive role modeling, support, and guidance.

Increase confidence in their ability to lead.

Become mentors for the next generation of underrepresented populations.
