AORE Programming Descriptions - What's the Difference?

How is an Association Chat different from Affinity Networking? Here's the breakdown on AORE's programming:

Outdoor Facilitator Academy:

This academy will explore how to be an effective outdoor facilitator.  No matter where an individual may lead, or what specific outdoor experience they are providing, the ability to effectively communicate and manage a group to desire outcomes is paramount.  Through a variety of education sessions from demonstrated outdoor facilitators, self assessment of current skills, and small group discussion participants will identify the attributes desired to be an impactful leader. This is an ongoing Academy, beginning in January.

DE&I Academy:

If you guide, train or encourage people to get outdoors, this Academy is designed for YOU! This Academy will provide participants a wider recognition of exclusionary practices within outdoor recreation and education and to help them gain better understanding of how they can actively work to make change as leaders in the industry. Throughout the year this academy will include a variety of education sessions from thought leaders, self reflection activities, and small group discussion to help participants identify actionable ways that they can lead in addressing these barriers.

Affinity Networking:

These are non-facilitated meet-ups that allow both members and non-members to connect and discuss topics relevant to the identity group they choose to participate under.

Annual Conference:

Our biggest event of the year, which is in person! This multi-day event connects our members with one another and helps to broaden the collaboration between the outdoor industry and outdoor recreation and education.

Association Chat:

Join AORE Leadership and members as we come together to discuss industry current events, challenges and member questions. As a collective group, we will determine the path of discussion the forum takes and provide opportunities for members to support each other through shared experiences.

Coffee Chats:

Grab your coffee, smoothie, tea or water and come listen in as AORE’s Executive Director, Jeannette Stawski, speaks with industry leaders to help you learn a little more about the topics, people, issues and perspectives that impact AORE members.

DE&I Lead and Learn:

We intend for each attendee to both lead and learn during this session. This session will be facilitated by DE&I Committee Members and are designed to have attendees engage in discussion around Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - we encourage you to bring successes, challenges and stumbling blocks in your experience with the topic.

Equity Challenge:

Available to both AORE members and non-members, this 5 week program is intended to provide resources and intentional self reflection discussion to help each participant understand what it means to be anti-racist.

Inclusive Summit:

A multi-day virtual summit centered on increasing inclusive practices within various parts of the outdoor industry.

Industry Casual Conversation:

Intended to be informational, these 30 minutes are meant to help you learn a little more about the topics, people, issues and perspectives that impact AORE members and the outdoor industry.

Professional Development Webinars:

Varying in length and topic, our webinars are brought to you to help you grow in the industry and learn from industry experts.

So You Want to Be a . . . :

This is a virtual [and casual!] conversation designed to highlight different career paths in the industry, removing barriers and the need to know someone and allowing jobs to be accessible by all.  These events provide answers to career questions and access the tools, education, and support needed to choose a focus area, navigate the job market, advance within the profession, and find the right environment that will allow them to flourish and become their best selves.
